Traduction française disponible ci-dessous.

September 30th, 2022 will be marking the second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Through legislative amendments, Bill C-5 An Act to amend the Bills of Exchange Act, the Interpretation Act and the Canada Labour Code (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation) received Royal Assent on June 3rd, 2021. As a result, September 30th “...honours the lost children and Survivors of residentials schools, their families and communities” (“National Day for Truth and Reconciliation,” para. 2).

Across Canada, September 30th is also recognized as Orange Shirt Day.

Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day, enables global conversations to be held on all aspects of Residential Schools, helping to create meaningful discussions about the effects and the legacy that such have left behind. Indeed, the events held across Canada for Orange Shirt Day seek to “...commemorate the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation” (“The Story of Orange Shirt Day,” n.d., para. 2).

In honour of September 30th, we have uploaded in our Linktree an updated guide with events to attend, webinars to sign up for, and an extensive resource list encompassing books, documentaries and more!

The Story of Orange Shirt Day », s.d., paragraphe 2).
